Mandala Project 2005
Throughout the year I will be creating a series of larger color mandalas, based on the months of the year. When I do these daily mandalas I attempt to let go of all thought or intent, focusing only on the energy of the day or feeling of the moment...a pure drawing experience, unplanned, organic. I'll often take a moment to reflect on the day or perhaps an event or certain person, and then let that go and start drawing. So what I am doing to commemorate 2005, as it happens, is a series of 12 mandalas relating to the feelings associated with that particular month....what those feelings are, I do not know....we'll have to wait and see....they will be created during the month they reflect. Each month I will be creating 5 hand colored mandalas, titled "january 2005" and so on, and numbered 1/5 through 5/5. Yep, just 5 each month, Identical drawings, each hand colored a unique color scheme.....so there you have it....original works made available, as well as very limited editions. But, thats not all. Each of these mandalas will be made available in a custom wooden frame designed specifically for this project! These frames are truly beautiful! A good friend of mine, a furniture maker in washington state, who is also very excited about this project, will be creating these wooden masterpieces for me. The mandalas are about 6"x6" and the entire size of the piece in the frame is 8.25"x8.25" Each month, 3 of these will be available as I will be keeping one and the frame maker will be getting one. The remaining three will be made available to anyone interested. Each mandala is $100 plus $8 shipping. If you are interested in multiple months, they can be shipped together once completed if you wish Below are images of the 5 mandalas for each month and this page will be updated with new mandalas as they are available. Each month's frames will feature a unique design for that month and will probably contain at least three different kinds of wood in each. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
January frames are Black Cherry, with Black Walnut inner stripe and BroadLeaf Maple outer stripe.
February frames are BroadLeaf Maple, with Tasmanian Inlay and Black Walnut spline on the corners.
March frames are Black Walnut, with Purple Heart Inner Stripe. Black Walnut spline on the corners.
April frames are Tasmanian Black Wood with Tasmanian Myrtle Inlay. Myrtle spline on the corners.
May frames are Cherry, with a Western Maple Stripe, Walnut Rings, and Cherry inside the rings.
June frames are Western Maple, with Mahogany strip and Mahogany spline on the corners.
July frames are Tasmanian Myrtle, with Purpleheart and Maple plugs and Walnut spline on the corners.
August frames are Walnut, with Western Maple Stripe and Cherry spline on the corners.
September frames are Tasmanian Blackwood with Purple Heart and Tasmanian Myrtle inlay, and Purple Heart splines on the corners.
October frames are Cherry with Purple Heart stripe, and Cherry splines on the corners.
November frames are Tasmanian Myrtle with Western Maple, and Myrtle splines on the corners.
December frames are Cherry, with Purpleheart and Yellowheart inlay, and Walnut splines on the corners.
